An amendment (Not as easy as 1,2,3)

When I first made my resolutions I said I'd try to learn some Cantonese, because it was disconcerting to mess up "Happy New Year" and only know the numbers.

Now I've learnt I've been messing up the numbers too.

Back to the drawing board, I've been repeating the numbers over and over. It's all these tones that's hard to do, so I feel a lot like Eliza Doolittle.

A friend of mine who's learning German has beaten me to the punch on the wit here.

I got on email from her where she's reported that it's difficult to move to a country where everyone speaks only German and she only knows two German words.

However she's expressed an interest to learn.

"If I learn two more German words every day now I may be able to have a conversation with a German for about two minutes by the end of the year - yay!"

I kind f feel that way about Cantonese, except with that Chinese person I'll just be able to chant numbers happily with a Cantonese speaker by the end of the year. Maybe someone who has an obsession with counting to one hundred.
